ROKAnol® L22 is an anionic surfactant (INCI name: Laureth-22). The commercial product is a white, waxy solid with a solidification point of approximately 37°C. The product is highly soluble in water, in particular in warm water (above the solidification point of the product). The hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance (HLB) value of the product is approximately 16.6. ROKAnol® L22 is a derivative based on renewable plant raw materials and is mainly used in cosmetic applications.
The product is used primarily as an emulsifier and solubilizer in various types of applications, including cosmetic applications. Due to its high degree of ethoxylation, ROKAnol® L22 has a strong hydrophilic character, which makes it ideal for the formation of stable oil-in-water emulsions (O/W). The product forms particularly stable emulsions in combination with other low HLB emulsifiers, e.g. ROKAnol® L4.
When used in skin and hair care products, the product forms an occlusal layer (film) on the surface. This prevents excessive evaporation of water, which is referred to as indirect moisturizing effect. As a result, the skin and hair are conditioned, i.e. softened and smoothed. The product is used in such cosmetic products as creams, body lotions, shampoos, bubble baths and many others.
ROKAnol® L22 is a safe and stable product, free of preservatives, biodegradable and meets the requirements of the cosmetics directive.
