Roflam F3 is a halogen-free flame retardant based on phosphoric esters. It provides a high flame retardancy profile to plastics without adversely affecting their mechanical properties. It provides a high fire resistance for plastics without adversely affecting its mechanical properties.

Application of this flame retardant results in the formation of a char layer on the surface of the material, which is slowing down the spread of flame. It also has a reduced viscosity of approx. 45 mPa*s (at 25°C) which is an important parameter for miscibility with the additives in the solid form. Due to its low viscosity Roflam F3 can be successfully used in formulations based on powder additives, i.e.. melamine, ammonium polyphosphate, aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide. The use of solid components and liquid of Roflam F3 allows (by synergy effect) to fulfil strict combustibility criteria. These properties are used primarily in highly filled mixtures based on epoxy or polyester resins in the production of laminates and composites.The advantages of Roflam F3 make it also suitable as a component of composite materials reinforced with glass fibres or other materials of this type. The reduced viscosity of the flame retardant promotes obtaining low viscosity resin-based binders. This facilitates the processing operations by more effective soaking of fibres, which results in a higher mechanical strength of the material. This effect is particularly crucial in the processes of pultrusion and infusion.Roflam F3 can also be used as a component of intumescent coatings used for protecting steel structures in public places (e.g. airports, sports halls).

Properties and applications

Product application advantages:

halogen free product, which does not create toxic gases during combustion,
possibility to use in synergy with inorganic flame retardants provided in solid form, in order to improve the flammability profile of the material,
significant effect on reducing the viscosity of the system and increasing its flame retardancy,
possibility to obtain V0 flammability class according to UL-94 for epoxy resins,
facilitates the processing operations by reducing the viscosity of the resin binder.
